Johnson Stevens Ireland Limited was established in 1979 by William F. Patchell, Derek W. Johnson and Tom Bax-Stevens.
Johnson Stevens Ireland quickly became a leading player in the Irish Liner Agency trade and retains that position today after over forty years in business.
The company’s services were expanded by its appointment as General Agent for WEC Lines in 1980 who then operated in the East Africa trade. WEC also served the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands.
The present-day service offers comprehensive sailing options across a range of East African and European calling ports, including direct sailing services between Ireland, Spain, and Portugal.
In 1984 Yang Ming Transport Corp. of Taiwan launched its Asia-North European Continent services and appointed Johnson Stevens Ireland as General Agent in Ireland. Yang Ming’s services expanded rapidly and served the Far East, Southeast Asia and the Indian Sub-Continent. This new representation on the Asia trade significantly expanded Johnson Stevens’ services and market share in Ireland.
Yang Ming Lines presence in Ireland under the stewardship of Johnson Stevens has grown from strength to strength, right up to present-day, offering competitive rates to/from 70+ calling ports, supported by our commitment to excellent local customer service on every booking taken.
The company’s portfolio of agencies was greatly enhanced in 1985 when Independent Container Lines launched its niche trans-Atlantic service and appointed Johnson Stevens Ireland as General Agent.
Independent Container Line (also known as ICL) remain the only container shipping line with a Transatlantic service that sails directly from Ireland to the United States with no port stops in between. The ICL service sails from the Port of Ringaskiddy, Cork, Ireland on a Saturday and arrives in the Port of Chester Pennsylvania, USA just 10 calendar days later. The present-day service, which boasts the #1 ranking for reliable transit times on the Transatlantic, is a highly sought-after sailing option for BCO’s seeking dependable and fast transit times between Ireland and the United States. The service also calls to ports Wilmington in North Carolina, Antwerp in Belgium, and Southampton in England.
